  • Matcha (抹茶): A finely ground powder made from specially grown and processed green tea leaves, commonly used in tea ceremonies.

  • Mizudashi (水出し): Cold brew tea preparation, where the tea is steeped in cold water for several hours.

  • Mecha (芽茶): A term that refers to buds and younger leaves of the tea plant used for making finer teas. Bud tea is tea made by collecting the buds and leaf tips that are produced during the production of sencha and gyokuro teas. Together with stem tea and powdered tea, it is called demono, and is a byproduct of the sencha production process. Because it is a by-product, it is not considered a first-class tea, but it is often more expensive than sencha because it is produced in smaller quantities.

  • Macha (抹茶): Sometimes used as an alternative spelling for matcha, especially in older texts.

  • Mino ware / Mino-yaki (美濃焼): A type of Japanese pottery that is frequently used for making tea ceremony utensils, known for its simple and rustic aesthetic.
