  • Fukamushi (深蒸し): A style of steaming green tea leaves longer than usual, resulting in a deeper flavor and a finer leaf consistency.

  • Fukusa (袱紗): A silk cloth used in the tea ceremony for handling hot kettles and purifying utensils. At first glance, a fukusa may resemble a furoshiki cloth, leading those unfamiliar with tea ceremony to think it is used for wrapping tea utensils. However, it is not typically used in this way; instead, it is commonly employed to purify (wipe) items such as tea caddies, natsume, and tea scoops.
Additionally, it can be used like a pot holder to handle hot lids of kettles.
Understanding the use of a fukusa involves recognizing its role in "fukusa handling," which varies widely in its rituals and styles. The handling of a fukusa can differ between schools and even between genders, making it a measure of a person's proficiency in the tea ceremony.

    • Futaoki (蓋置き): A ceramic or bamboo rest used to place the lid of the tea kettle during the tea ceremony.
